After the wise men left, Joseph received a vision of God's angel in a dream. He told Joseph, “Get up and take the young child and its mother and flee into Egypt. Don't come back until I tell you, because Herod wants to kill this little girl. ”

And when Herod was dead, an angel of the Lord came unto Joseph in a dream in the city of Egypt, saying unto him,

On the way, Joseph learns that a new king has changed his mind to his son Achuslus. So that is why Joseph is afraid to go back to Bethlehem. But in another dream, God warned him not to return to Judea, but to go to Galilee.
